We are seeking a System Design Engineer who will play a key role in designing validating advanced electro-optical systems, bridging the gap between research concepts and industrial implementation. Your expertise will be essential to transform complex technical requirements into robust, mission-ready solutions that strengthen our defence capabilities and technological leadership. This person will report to the Chief R&D Officer and will be part of the Research & Development Business Unit.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full system engineering lifecycle, from requirements definition to product launch, following the full V-cycle for Model Based Engineering.
- Understand the product from a technical and multidisciplinary perspective, ensuring the connection between mechanical, optical, electronic and manufacturing aspects.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, challenging technical choices and identifying missing elements or potential risks.
- Provide strong technical input during design discussions and be able to assess design decisions on the spot.
- Track and maintain the requirements, testing and performance of the design.
- Ensure that design choices are aligned with requirements, product performance and overall system requirements.
- Act as a technical reference point between design, engineering, manufacturing and other stakeholders.
- Identify gaps, inconsistencies or risks in the design and proactively raise them with the relevant teams.
- Contribute with strong design expertise, ideally with previous experience as a designer or in a role involving design ownership/review.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Optoelectronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10–15 years of relevant experience product development with roles as system architect, designer within defence, aerospace, high-technology, or industrial environments.
- Strong background in design, ideally with previous experience as a designer or in a role involving design ownership and/or design review.
- Multidisciplinary profile, with solid technical understanding of at least one of the following areas: mechanical, optics, electronics, optoelectronics, sensors, imaging technologies, night vision devices.
- Strong understanding of systems engineering methodologies, including the V-model. Knowledge of MBSE and SysML would be a plus.
- Experience with requirements management tools such as ReqView, DOORS, Jama, or Polarion.
- Knowledge of configuration management and change control processes.
- Ability to understand the product technically and connect requirements, design, manufacturing, testing, and launch.
- Technically strong, hands-on, and able to challenge design assumptions constructively during technical discussions and design reviews.
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical information effectively.
- English is a must. Spanish and/or French would be a plus.
