Exosens and NAST-I
Beginning in 2009, Telops, an Exosens brand, carried out a complete overhaul of the control and data acquisition electronics for NASA Langley Research Center’s NAST-I instrument.
The upgrade incorporated proven building blocks from the ASSIST and VSR instruments, including the Edgar software. We also provided engineering and technical support, ensuring the success of the operation.
NAST-I is used to provide experimental observations that help finalize specifications and test proposed designs and data-processing algorithms for the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS), developed for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS). The instrument also validates radiance measurements and geophysical products from Aqua’s AIRS and MODIS instruments, and supports the testing of retrieval methodologies for upcoming satellite missions such as METOP, NPP/NPOESS, and GOES-R. Beyond these applications, NAST-I contributes to other atmospheric research programs as well.
The instrument is deployed on various airborne platforms, including the ER-2, WB-57, and Proteus.
