Alpha, Beta, and Gamma detection

Exosens provides advanced radiation detection solutions with Geiger-Muller tubes and ionization chambers, offering reliable detection of alpha, beta, and gamma radiation. Exosens’s Geiger-Muller tubes are engineered to detect various forms of radiation, including x-rays, across a broad energy spectrum ranging from tens of keV to tens of MeV. These halogen-quenched devices feature metal walls optimized for gamma detection and thin mica windows, designed to effectively detect alpha and beta particles. With dose rate capabilities reaching up to 10⁴ mGy/h, Exosens's Geiger-Muller tubes are built to perform in demanding environments. Additionally, Exosens offers customized variants tailored to specific customer requirements, integrating bespoke modifications and specialized testing to ensure optimal performance in unique applications.

Our ionization chambers provide superior long-term stability and durability, making them essential for environmental and area monitoring applications. Designed for precise dose rate measurement, these chambers are ideal for safety-critical environments that require accurate radiation assessment over extended periods. Some models incorporate re-entrant tubes, enabling the insertion of small radioactive sources, while others feature a central hole for passing sources through the chamber, facilitating isotope monitoring and dose calibration. These versatile designs ensure that Exosens’s ionization chambers meet the rigorous demands of radiation monitoring in nuclear facilities, research institutions, and safety-sensitive industries.

Silicon photodiodes

Designed in Croydon, UK, and backed by decades of industry expertise since the early 1970s, Exosens silicon photodiodes are manufactured in state-of-the-art facilities across Western Europe. After fabrication, they undergo final processing, assembly, and testing at Exosens’s Croydon facility, Centronic Limited, to ensure high quality and performance. While much of Exosens’s production focuses on custom detectors tailored to specific customer requirements, the company also offers a selection of standard geometries in industry-standard packaging. These off-the-shelf designs provide a reliable solution for prototyping and allow manufacturers to source standardized products from multiple vendors. Exosens photodiodes are used in a wide range of critical applications, including fiber optic communication, X-ray and radiation detection, medical diagnostics, industrial safety systems, and astronomy. Some diodes are also adapted for neutron detection in nuclear applications, demonstrating their versatility.

Exosens photodiodes are engineered for precise light detection, with external quantum efficiency ranging from 0.2 to 0.7 A/W over a spectral range of 200–1100 nm. In addition to light detection, Exosens manufactures specialized diodes for direct X-ray and charged particle detection, as well as indirect X-ray detection using scintillator assemblies. Each diode series is optimized through the selection of silicon type, junction depth, and manufacturing processes to meet specific detection requirements. Exosens works closely with customers to modify existing designs for specialized applications, ensuring optimal performance. With a strong commitment to innovation and precision, Exosens continues to deliver high-performance photodiodes for a wide range of industries and critical detection needs.
