Solutions for Advanced Imaging
Exosens Imaging Finland & UK develops and manufactures short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensors and cameras based on colloidal quantum dot (CQD) technology. Operating from Espoo, Finland and Cambridge, UK, the two sites bring together nanomaterial science, custom CMOS design and camera engineering to deliver a fully in-house European SWIR imaging technology, now backed by the global reach and manufacturing scale of the Exosens group.

WHO WE ARE
Exosens Imaging Finland & UK designs and manufactures high-performance infrared sensors and cameras built on patented colloidal quantum dot technology and in-house designed CMOS integrated circuits.
Our teams combine deep expertise in nanomaterials and quantum dot photodetectors with high-performance industrial electronics, imaging software and camera design.
We operate from two complementary sites. In Cambridge, UK, our team develops the quantum dot sensor materials and devices, fabricates sensors in an on-site clean room and pilot production line on Cambridge Science Park, and carries out sensor characterisation and test. In Espoo, Finland, our team designs the CMOS readout circuits, electronics and software, and integrates and qualifies the complete camera systems.
The company was founded in 2016 as Emberion, building on research that began at Nokia, and joined the Exosens group in 2026. As part of Exosens, a European leader with more than 85 years of experience in the amplification, detection and imaging of light, we bring our technology to a worldwide customer base through Exosens’ sales channels and large-volume manufacturing capability.
Next-generation infrared imaging
Our cameras capture visible and short-wave infrared light on a single sensor, revealing detail that conventional silicon or InGaAs imagers cannot. Made with patented nanomaterial technology, they offer a scalable, cost-effective alternative to traditional SWIR detectors for demanding applications such as:
- Defence and surveillance, including night vision and border security
- Portable, handheld and drone-based imaging systems
- Industrial machine vision and semiconductor inspection
- Hyperspectral and scientific imaging
WHAT WE DO
Unique products created with patented technology
Our imaging and photodetection products are built on a proprietary technology stack that integrates colloidal quantum dot absorbers with custom-designed CMOS readout integrated circuits (ROICs), camera electronics and software, all developed in house.
Our work is protected by more than 120 granted patents worldwide and has been reported in numerous high-impact scientific journals.
Products
The VS17 and the VS20 VIS-SWIR camera and core families deliver broadband imaging, respectively from 400 to 1700 nm and 400 to 2000 nm, on a single VGA-format sensor, with high responsivity, low noise and a wide dynamic range. Available as a complete compact cameras or as a modular cores for integration, the VS17 and the VS20 families are offered with GigE Vision output interface
Technology Platform
→ Colloidal quantum dot photodiode pixel architecture
→ Patented measurement techniques and readout modes
→ Custom CMOS ROIC design, scalable to high-resolution formats
→ Complete camera electronics, firmware and software developed in house
