AI and Machine Vision Algorithms Engineer

Scope of the Role

Exosens/Advanced Imaging specializes in the research, development and industrialization of opto-electronic products: IR sensors, image intensifier tubes, camera platforms for visible light, night vision, industrial inspection, thermal inspection etc.

Exosens/Advanced Imaging is continuously improving the value of its cameras, both by hardware improvements and by SW and Algorithms. More specifically, these algorithms improve the image quality (denoising, contrast enhancement, …) and extract additional information from the image (detection of objects, …). Exosens wants to accelerate this activity and intensify its research in AI/ML to further improve the images to extract more and more complex data from the camera images.

Objectives of the role

As AI and Machine Vision Algorithms Engineer, you

  • Are part of the SW and Algorithms team:

    • You report to the manager of the SW and Algorithms team.

    • Contribute to the AI technology roadmap of Exosens (co-define technical strategies, explore/identify interesting applications).

    • Co-define roadmaps, plannings together with the manager of the SW and Algorithms team.

    • Continuously innovate and improve the methodologies, tools, equipment.

    • Ensure knowledge sharing inside the team.

  • Keep track of the evolutions in your domain:

    • Maintain relations with a broader ecosystem inside Exosens, and outside Exosens.

    • Keep yourself up to date with new models, new approaches, … that can be relevant for Exosens.

    • Propose new activities.

    • Participate in funded research projects.

  • Work on identified AI/ML applications:

    • Depending on your seniority level, autonomously or under guidance of a senior engineer, design and implement AI/ML applications.

    • Define solution architectures, including what algorithms to use (traditional algorithms or AI/ML models or a combination)

    • Get familiar with the application domains of Exosens and its constraints.

    • Explore available models and approaches to address the applications of Exosens.

    • Select the most appropriate existing models for the applications.

    • Define a training strategy.

    • Train and test the models.

    • Develop a prototype.

    • Optimize the models for implementation on embedded devices.

    • Develop production-grade code to be executed on embedded devices.

    • Provide input to the camera team for hardware/power consumption/… requirements and constraints.

This position is based in Leuven, Bensheim or Grenoble.

Required skills and Experience:

  • Experience

    • Master’s degree in a relevant domain: Algorithms, machine vision, AI, …

    • Experience in AI/ML/machine vision is a must

    • PhD in AI/ML/machine vision is a plus

    • Experience with embedded systems is a plus

    • Programming experience

  • Soft skills

    • Conceptual thinking

    • Analytical thinking

    • Trouble solver mindset
