Location: Sturbridge, MA
Position Summary
The Manufacturing Technician supports the production of Micro Channel Plates (MCPs), precision glass wafers containing millions of micron-scale channels used to amplify weak electron signals for the Mass Spectrometry industry. This role focuses on improving manufacturing yields, reducing scrap, and ensuring consistent production performance. The technician works under the direction of the Director of Manufacturing Engineering and receives mentorship from the Senior Manufacturing Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
The Manufacturing Technician contributes to process improvement, equipment support, and production continuity across all MCP product lines. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring MCP manufacturing processes, including Final Inspection, Test, Electroding, and Finishing, along with associated equipment.
- Troubleshooting process and equipment issues; performing basic mechanical repairs as needed.
- Conducting routine equipment inspections, cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
- Preparing productivity and process reports, including corrective actions and FMEA documentation.
- Assisting with diagnostic testing, servicing, and repair of MCP related machinery and components.
- Communicating equipment or process issues to engineering and management to prevent future downtime.
- Supporting the design, fabrication, and installation of electro mechanical components or machinery.
- Creating mechanical drawings and solid models using Autodesk Inventor.
- Evaluating MCP quality at all process stages and identifying defects or process deviations.
- Leading or participating in meetings with production operators and communicating clear objectives.
- Supporting Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including 5S and SPC.
- Promoting and reinforcing the ISO 9001 Quality Management System
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience
- Semiconductor industry experience is a plus
- U.S. citizenship for ITAR regulations
- Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, MRP systems, and database applications.
- Ability to use analytical/statistical software and CAD tools.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret written, verbal, diagrammatic, or schedule based instructions.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as frequency distribution, test reliability, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical and scientific information.
- Ability to respond professionally to customer inquiries.
