Atmospheric sounding plays a key role for researchers, as it measures crucial atmospheric variables, with either a top-down approach using satellites or bottom-up approach using weather sounding balloons or atmospheric sounder instruments.  

Profiling technologies help scientists to measure properties of the atmospheric layers such as the properties of some aerosols and simple clouds, the mixing ratios of trace gases, and the vertical distribution of temperature and water vapor. Exosens offers an infrared spectroradiometer capable of providing the spectral radiance of the atmosphere over a broad spectral range, with high spectral and temporal resolutions to help fill the current boundary layer observational gap with the top-down approach.

In the climate and weather research fields, tracking long-term changes in temperature and humidity profiles, as well as short-term temperature events, is extremely important to understand the atmosphere we are living in. Ground-based technologies help validate satellite measurements, provide long-term observations, and offer valuable information about the air quality.
